Buzz and Bloom

It's Rare - by Gina Rodgers

When I first heard this assignment was to scrap a layout about me...my first thought was 'aaaagh!' This subject matter is way out of my comfort zone! But after having a think about it..I decided to focus on one of the main reasons why I find it hard to scrap about myself..I hate having my photo taken and avoid it in most cases.. I can usually be found hiding behind my camera instead..

  

The cute flower shapes used here are CB Blame it on the Sunshine - Small Firstly, I removed the flower centres and then painted them with a white acrylic (gesso would be fine too) Once dry, I stamped with a purple Stazon ink using my french script stamp... and to finish, I highlighted the flower centres a little with some colour pencils

   

For the title I've chosen the funky CB Pop Art Alphabet - Basic firstly inking, and then adding a subtle shadow effect using coloured pencils once again..

 

I'm really hoping that this layout will help me overcome my issues in scrapping myself... and I might even share another one soon... so watch this space :)

Read Wall Plaque - by Jodie Zebra

Hello Hello!
Ok, this post is going to be super quick!
This project is also something super quick, and easy too, a cute off the page, that you could knock up in no time at all!
Perfect to decorate a wall, or give as a gift, all you need is:

A block of wood, or canvas,
Some scrap paper
Buzz and Bloom fabric - I used FABRIC: PATCH WORK - Fineliner (Airforce)
Vintage Golden book, or childrens book (or really any cute artwork you like)
CB: Buttons which you can paint, or decorate how you wish, I chose to ink mine.
Some decorative flourishes like CB:Round Corner Flourish once again, painted, or inked.
And lastly some alphabets to spell out your word, I used CB:Shelby Alphabet - Lower Case

 

Then you take out your glue, and spread it over the wood, attach your paper, sand off the edges for a flush look, and ink if you wish, to make it more grungy and vintage looking and your base is set!
Now you can play around with the look you want,your papers, fabric, and your embellishment pieces,  when you are happy stick it all down,or layer it to add more dimension.

Once you are happy with it, you are done.

Super quick, and easy huh?

Thank you all so much for all of the comments, emails and calls we've had since we announced that Buzz and Bloom is closed. The last 7 years have been an amazing journey. We've really enjoyed being a part of this industry, filled with so many warm, friendly, supportive and artistic people.

We've been clearing out our warehouse and all the discontinued stock we're finding is being put up for sale on our eBay store.

Once these items sell out, that's it! There are some amazing deals on many of the products that we manufactured ourselves under the Buzz and Bloom brand, as well as some great bargains on items from our old retail web-store.

We've got many of our popular laser cut/engraved chipboard, fabric and acrylic items, as well as discontinued unmounted rubber and clear stamps. We've got ribbons and embellishments packs and we're adding to it all the time as we find more in the warehouse.

BELIEVE IN YOU - by Janis Medina-Maghinay

My family and friends know me as someone who is confident and sure of her decisions in life.  There are times though, that I get lost and overwhelmed with things.  In those times, this is what I always tell myself:

On my layout, I used Miranda in Catwalk. I painted her with acrylic paint and topped her with Jo Sonja's Opal Dust for that sparkly finish!!!

 

I used "Believe" which is included in CB Heart Strings:  Cut-out Tags as part of my title along with some CB Shelby Lower Case alphabets.  Both were painted with acrylic paint and topped with Ranger's Glossy Accents.

My Heart’s Purple – by Pippa Waddell

 

This month the DT were asked to produce a LO about ourselves; a secret, an idiosyncrasy that would normally go unscrapped. So here is a little something about me you may not know – I am football mad! Australian Rules Football that is. And in particular, mad for my team the Fremantle Dockers. 

Now, I’m going to try very, very hard not to turn this blog post into an essay extolling the virtues of my game and my team. But here is a little background info on this LO, to let you in on how just how obsessed - I mean passionate we are.

• My husband and I have supported our team since 1995 when they entered the competition.
• We have been paying members for the last 10 years
• We purchased a membership for our son . . . before he was born!
• While living in Sydney, we travelled to Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne to see our team play (and lose on EVERY ocassion)
• We hand made a banner (printed out individual letter templates, traced onto fabric, hand cut and machine stitched each one onto a purple sheet!) to take to games with the very same verse that features on this LO. Just count them – that’s a lot of letters! 
• For the last five years we have taken 4 hour round trips (with little tackers in tow) up to 11 times a year to see our team play
• We stuck by our team through "The Dark Years" in which we have enjoyed very little success and have been shown poor respect from other clubs, their fans (you know who you are! LOL) and the media - until this year!

So, on to the LO itself. Strange colour combo? You bet, and here’s why:

 

The team colours are Purple, Red, Bottle Green and White. Not the most traditional of scrappy colour combos I'll admit, but I love a challenge.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again that this is what I love about Buzz and Bloom chipboard. You can alter it any way you like, for any colour combo. I have used a variety of techniques here. For my title I have used a mix of CB Pop Art Alphabet - Basic , Dots, Fineliner and Stripes. I have lightly applied a mauve ink so as to best show off the gorgeous laser etching, then accented the edges of the alphas with a dark purple. As I final touch I have coloured in the etching with a purple gel pen for a little more definition.

I have used the same coloured inks on the hearts from CB Love & Kisses Words. These different sized hearts layer up just beautifully together.


Then I have painted the CB Beaded Curtain and covered in a clear embossing powder to give that great glossy finish.

I had a ready-made purple embellishment in ACR Be Mine Cupid - Grape  which perfectly matched my “purple heart” theme. 

I think I’ve ended up with a quirky LO that reflects a little piece of me and my life, right now - and that means a lot to me.

Scrapping Process - Anticipation - by Sophie Sim-Lawrence

hmm, so what's my scrap process? I say this is a tough one for me, given the sporadic nature I work. However, with that said, more often than not, I start with a story in mind.

 
This page for instance, is one of those that I've filed away mentally, waiting for the day when all the items we've prepared for Bubby are in order. So, with only some days left before we meet our precious one, this page was created to share with our little one in future about what we have done in anticipation of his/her arrival.

Once I have the idea in mind, the next step for me will be to capture the necessary pictures for the layout. Thereafter, I decide on the mood of the page, before pulling together papers and embellies that will match accordingly. In this instance, CB Daffodils, CB Butterflies, CB Buttons, CB On Cloud Nine and CB Pop Art Alphabet - Basic complemented the story I wanted to tell beautifully. Because these embellies were so versatile, I could colour them to create a softer, subtle effect. I'm usually not a pastel person, but here, I like how the softer tones served to highlight the stronger colours found in the pictures.

At the end of the day, we all scrap for various reasons, of which I believe capturing those really special moments is among them. With this page, I wish you loads of fun in so doing and don't let that story slip you by!
