Buzz and Bloom

For this project I went way off the page and created this mini mobile using CB Fly Away Peter - large.   

I first traced the birds onto patterned paper.  Here I used October Afternoon's "Fly A Kite" line.  Before adhering the patterned paper cut outs, I used my sewing machine to stitch around the perimeter of the paper.  I then used a liquid adhesive to glue the patterned paper down.  Using a file I sanded the edges for a smooth finish.  A little distress inking and the bird was all set.

For the title work, I used CB Shelby Alphabet - lowercase.  I painted the letters yellow and topped them with yellow Stickles. 

To create the banner pieces, I drew a banner using Microsoft Word.  I cut the shape out of printer paper and traced it onto some thin chipboard, the kind that comes at the back of a paper pack.  I repeated the process to get two banner shaped pieces of chipboard and then onto patterned paper to get two banner shaped pieces of patterned paper. 

Using my scoring tool, I scored the chipboard so that the banner would fold in on itself at each end and thus have a little more dimension.  I adhered the patterned paper to each chipboard banner piece and then glued the folds of the banner in on themselves.  You have to adhere the patterned paper before folding and adhering the scored banner together.

I cut two small rectangular shaped pieces of patterned paper, stitched around the edges of those, adhered them to the folded banner pieces, then adhered the painted and Stickled alphas.

Here is a closeup of both sides of the banner pieces.

I then took a bright yellow gem I had lying around and threaded it onto some fishing line along with a couple other beads.  I tied a knot at the top of the beads and then ran the fishing line up opposing sides of the three dimensional bird and up into the banner pieces.  I hot glued the ends of the fishing line to the inside of one of the banner pieces.  The pink ribbon was then hot glued on each end to the inside of each of the banner pieces before I hot glued each of the banner pieces to one another. 

This little birdie hangs by the window in my scrap room.  Had I had one on hand a prism would have been a great ornament to hang from the bottom of the bird to catch some light and throw some rainbows around the room.  I think this would be really cute in a baby's room with the baby's name maybe on the banner pieces or "sweet dreams" would be cute too.  If you have any questions on the construction of this little mobile feel free to ask!

Do your kids have their favorite toys?  My daughter has this cute teddy bear that she totally loves (well, let's say its her Toy of the Month, LOL!!!!) and I couldn't resist but make a page about it.

I was able to use here CB Frill Corners (check out too those frills at the side of the handmade flowers!!!)...

...CB That's 70s and CB Vette-Lower Case Alphabets for my title topped with a heart button from CB Button Collection.  The swirl chipboard is from CB Totally Tweet Collection.  I painted all chipboards here with acrylic paint and topped with Ranger's Glossy Accents.

Interactive layouts make it even funnier to watch our scrapbooks over and over again!

I had a lot of fun making this one, as a puzzle game, using my page protector as the background...

  

How to do that kind of puzzle?
I first cut the picture into 12 even squares and then, I draw a grid pattern (at the squares' size) on the protective sheet. I used my sewing machine to stitch over the grid lines...
Then on each square of this grid I cut out, with a little blade, a border of 3mm on the right side, in order to be able to add and remove the photo squares afterwards...

I placed the pictures' parts randomly and decorated the layout with some of my favorite Buzz and Bloom embellishments of the moment... clear acrylics and denim!

Clear acrylics are very easy to use and can be altered to match every style you need to have! I wanted a "cloudy look" to fit the picture, so I put some classical white ink on the back of the clear Acrylic Fat Albert Alphabet and Acrylic Lava Lamp - Small, and paused to let them dry for some time...

 

I completed the layout embellishment with white inked Chipboard Arboretum: Retro Vine (a part of it) and a Denim Mini Tokens: Going Places (world map)

Baby's First Six Months Mini Album - by Pippa Waddell

At the end of this month, my son's teacher is leaving to have her first baby. We are very fond of her as she is the sweetest thing, and has taught our son for the last two years. We wanted to do something special as a parting gift.

Not knowing whether she is having a boy or a girl, I thought that if I keep the colours neutral, the CB Book Kit - Beaded Curtain would make a gorgeous baby album. But what to do? There is no baby yet to take photos of to put in the album...  I know, let's make it a "Fill it Yourself" style. Meaning that the new mum can write her own journaling and place her own photos in the album.

 

I went for a first six months theme which has fitted in nicely with the number of chipboard pages in the  CB Book Kit - Beaded Curtain.

 

We Mums know that the first six months of a baby's life just whizz by, and the baby changes so much in such a short time. It's so important to keep a record of all their little milestones like, first smile, first tooth, pushing up, rolling over etc. So I wanted to create some extra room for journaling. I have measured up some cardstock pages to insert between the chipboard, and just punched holes to match up and bind. The most economical way to title these pages was to stamp them. It just so happened that I had a set of Unmounted Rubber Stamps - Trubble (discontinued) which were perfect.

 

The amazing laser engraved pattern on the CB Book Kit - Beaded Curtain  cover looks fab with a coat of paint just brushed over the top, being careful not to get too much paint down into the grooves. A little spray of Glimmermist adds a touch of glamour and an inking around the edges finishes off the look.

I have painted up the CB That 70's Alphabet title and CB Totally Too Tweet little birdie and given a coat of Dimensional Magic.

The inside front (and Back) covers of the CB Book Kit - Beaded Curtain have been covered in patterned paper, so this gives a ready made background. I have measured up some 6"x4" cardstock pieces to use as "photos", and adhered to the page with photo corners. This means that I could go ahead and embellish as I would normally, just using strategic glue placement LOL. In other words, wherever you see embellishing that overlaps the "photo", the embellishment will actually lift up to allow photo placement later on.

 

I have used some split rings to bind the book together, again this will allow the new mum to take out the journaling pages to write on them. I love the look of these cotton laces and fabrics knotted on to the rings. If you look closely you'll see a few little embellies hiding in amongst that beautifull mess, including a MIR Blame It On The Sunshine - Small. This adds a bit of interest and an element of the unexpected.

 

Moving through the book now we you will also see lots of Chipboard embellies. I say it every time I post here, but they are just so versatile. Here's what I've used:

CB Frill Corners painted or inked to coordinate

CB Room With A View - I have chopped the little "trunk" off the tree and sanded the edge to create a really cute heart. I have inked, and then coloured in the little birdie with gel pens. Sweet!

CB Up The Garden Path - Multi Pack painted and KindyGlitzed

CB Love & Kisses - Words - I have inked one of the hearts from "Love" to add to an embellie cluster.

You'll also see ACR Fairy Throne - Bubblegum thrown in for good measure LOL

 

I'm just so excited to give it to her now LOL.

Still Hurts - by Keandra Perkins-Willis

I was looking through some older pictures the other day.  When I uncovered the one of Hakeem, I instantly felt flutters in my stomach.  The guilt crept back into my soul...just like it was only eight days instead of eight years since he left this earth.  I never dated this guy.  He was my best friend from the moment I met him until the day God took him from us.  He was SO good to me at a time when I was a single mom of one and needed a good support system.  We figured out early on that we were too much alike to have anything but a platonic relationship...and that worked out well for us.  The guilt I feel now is because he was spiritually so much more advanced than me.  When things went wrong, he wanted to pray and I wanted to FIGHT!!!!  I didn't want to hear that prayin' stuff!!!  He would pray for me anyway.  I was at another place in my life then...one that I'm glad is in my PAST!!! But, I still have issues when I look at pictures of him. I don't know if anyone else has ever experienced this: there are certain emotions attached to some of the pictures I have...so many that I can't bear to look at/scrap them.  Pictures of Hakeem fall into that category.  But, I'm trying to be better...I AM better!  That's why coming across this picture made me say "time out for the foolishness!"  I know in my heart that he would be happy that I'm spiritually maturing....so I created this:

This was one of the pictures used to create the funeral program so it was already cropped...perfect to use on top of a ACR WRITER'S BLOCK SUPER HEROES SMASH (in tomato).  To create my title, I used the CHIPBOARD:SHELBY ALPHABET and the CHIPBOARD:VETTE ALPHABET  (in small and large).  And how PERFECT was the CHIPBOARD WHAM BANG OUCH! to illustrate the state my heart is in?  Hopefully the fact that I'm scrapping him for the first time in eight years means I'm healing and I'll soon only feel happy butterflies when I think of him...this is for you, Hakeem.

Out Of This World - by Tanisha Long

How lucky am I to have these 2 little cuties as sons? They are funny, they're loud, they giggle and make noise all day long...they are out of this world and I simply can't get enough of them.

 For this layout, I chose 2 different alphabet that would really go along with the "space" theme.  I gave the CB Pop Art Alphabet - Basic chipboard a sparkly pop by spritzing them with gold glimmer smooch spritz and then inking the edges.

I adhered ACR Analog Alphabet (Ruby) to white cardstock before attaching it to the layout so the letters popped against the photograph.

Labyrinth - By Gina Rodgers

Hello all :)  I've scrapped a holiday snap of my girl during our visit to the
Melbourne Museum last year. A highlight for her was an exhibition called
'The Mind: Enter the Labyrinth.. I loved this photo of Jem tracing the path of
the labyrinth... and found the geometric style of some Buzz and Bloom acrylic
and chipboard the perfect embellishments to use...

The ACR Lava Lamp - bubblegum pink was easy to 'snap' into 3 pieces
to provide an eye-catching trim. I've deepened the shade of pink a little by
adding some fuchsia coloured ink

 

For the title I've used these cool CB Rustic alphabet and under that, added a
CB Pointer - Swirly Snails I've coloured them simply with a walnut ink and
once stuck down, traced around in a white gel pen to make them 'pop' out
against the pattern paper..
