Buzz and Bloom

Color Combo - Water Babies - by Skye Johnson

When I saw the colour scheme that was picked for us for this assignment, I was super excited! The colours were just perfect for that long list of summer holiday photos I have sitting around waiting to be scrapped.
 
For this layourt, I just wanted some solid block colours, so they were bright and popped from the page.
To contrast that, I wanted to keep my neutrals very basic.
So I stuck to painting for my brights and raw chippie (with very little inking) for my neutrals. 

I love the Pop Art Alpha, so I used one of my favourites, CB Pop Art Stripes Alphabet and inked that with just a little bit of Versacolour Pinecone.
This is my favourite ink for leaving chipboard raw as it just defines it enough to make it stand out.
 
I also inked one of the new CB Buttons for my top corner.
 
In contrast I painted my CB Frills Corners and CB Retro Leaves in teal and red to stand out against my green background paper, those colours are so beautiful and bright against each other, dont you think?!
 
The paints work so well with Buzz and Bloom chipboard. The chipboard doesn't absorb too much or go too soggy when you paint on it like some others do. I just use Kaisercraft paints and they work perfectly together!
So why not get your paints or inks or mists out and have a go at the same colour scheme? It's a sure fire winner!

Mini Fashionista - By Skye Johnson

When I first received my new release products and saw that there was a CB Miranda in there, I had NO idea what I was going to do!
I'm not one much for feature embellishments on my page and I am generally into clustering more than I am into big chipboard, but the more I looked at it, and the more I thought about it, the more curious I got.
I love that the new model cutouts are so glamorous, so for me, it had to be a page about fashion! When I found this photo of myself as a child 'dressed up the 9's' I thought it was perfect!

Basically, I wanted to keep the silhouette effect, so I sprayed my CB Miranda doll with a dark glimmer mist. The shine from the mist really added to the glam feel!

I also sprayed some CB Frills Corners (Which are QUICKLY becoming my most favourite item from either Buzz and Bloom or otherwise!), with the same mist to compliment the figure. 


And some super cute CB Pop Art Stripes Alphabet, which I only needed to ink, because the super gorgeous raised bits added all the effect that was needed! 
 
I'm so pleased with how it turned out! Especially considering my initial concerns about the new product! Guess it just goes to show that stepping out of our comfort zone and working with something new and unusual can sometimes have surprising results :)

'London Bridge' - by Skye Johnson

Being on a manufacturer's design team has to be at it's most exciting when they release new products, right?!
You get to be among the first to take them for a test run and have a play!
If you havent seen the amazing new products yet, make sure you get over to the website and do so! They are so fun and funky and unique!
For this layout, I got to play with the new CB - Buttons and CB - Daffodils as well as a few of the other delicious pieces in the B&B Catalogue!

 
 
 The CB - Daffodils didn't really have a girly floral feel to me, they're not as swirly as some of the other new release floral chipboards, so I didn't want to create anything too prissy.

Instead, I used them to echo the shapes of the waves in a photo I had with the ocean in the background!

With a little bit of texture (made by dabbing the paint on with a brush as opposed to brushing it on), the shape was perfect!
 
In keeping with the blues of the page, I coloured some CB - That 70s Alpha with some regular coloured pencils for my title.


I have tried this on another beach layout I've done and I love the weathered look it gives, perfect for anything oceanside!
I like to colour the alphas before I pop them out of the sheet, it makes it a lot less fiddly and easier to control!


The new CB - Buttons were just such a perfect little touch. They are so versatile and I think you could do almost anything with them, I chose to ink some of the smaller ones and paint the larger ones to match.

I topped the whole thing off with an ACR - Yes Your Majesty - Blueberry for a bit of a regal 'London' feel to go with my title (how cute are these??!) and some cute CB Frill Corners

I mounted the whole thing on a base I had prepared from a sheet of patterened paper and an acetate window, which provides a see through window and sets off the acrylic pieces nicely and draws attention to all of my little chipboard pieces!


I had so much fun playing with all of the new bits and pieces and I can't wait to make a start on my next project!

'Know This' - by Skye Johnson

I just recently went on a two week road trip with two very good friends of mine who I have known for over 15 years.
We had a couple of moments where I think a break would have been *very* necessary, but overall the trip showed me how much their friendship means to me.
So when one of them sent me some of her photos from the trip, I knew I wanted to scrap a layout about it for my third project.

Again, the CB Beaded Curtain Border sucked me in.
This time, since my holiday was almost entirely oceanside, I wanted an aquatic look.
To get this effect, I painted a white base coat and followed with a light sponging of watered down blue paint and layered it over an ACR Lava Lamp (Now discontinued, sorry ladies!).

It worked just nicely!

Next I painted my CB Vette Upper Case Alpha with a solid coating of the same blue paint and stitched them onto the layout with white cotton to compliment the beaded curtain strip.

As you might be able to see, I love a bit of good clustering, and that gave me a chance to also fit in some Black FAB Blame it on the Sunshine Flowers, CB Up The Garden Path Flower and ACR Shout Outs in Fuchsia

So after my first month on the DT and three layouts in, I have to say I am LOVING my test drive of every product I've used!
Everything is so much fun and so versatile!

'Marelle et Moi' - by Skye Johnson

Afternoon All! It's Skye back again with my second project for the month!
This time round I chose to do a bit of a girly layout of myself and one of my lovely scrapping friends Marelle.

I have known Marelle through online scrapping forums for some time and got the chance last month to have dinner with her and some other mutual friends.

As soon as I saw the CB Beaded Curtain Borders in my product pack, I had visions of luxury.
I don't know what it is about them exactly, but I instantly wanted to paint them gold, so for this project, I did just that!
I didn't give them a base coat, as the raw chipboard acted as a perfect base for the gold colour and after two coats, I had a lovely metallic sheen.
For the next step, I backed each section with paper to make it stand out a little more from my background...

I love the arabian jewel type effect that I got!
I wanted this to be the main feature of my page, but a few other bits and pieces, including CB Shelby Alpha (both Upper and Lower case and Countdown Numbers) and a heart token from the CB Mini Tokens - Butterfly Kisses pack were just lightly inked or painted to complement the rest of the page.

And the best thing is that after cutting the curtain strips to size for my design, I still have two left in my pack to use on another layout! At 12 inches, they go such a long way when cut up!

As I had hoped, the beaded curtain provided a really great look for a girly layout that isn't too young or childish. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

'See Food' - by Skye Johnson

Hi All!
WOW - I am so excited to be posting my first project as a DT member for 2010!

When I saw all of the beautiful products I was going to get to create with this year, I was so excited!
I felt very lucky to have some awesome photos from the Christmas and summer festivities over the past few months that I know were going to be perfect for the funky products, so I jumped straight in with this fun layout using a whole bunch of different bits and pieces...

The greatest thing I'm finding about all of the products is that you can dress them up or leave them as they are and they're still going to look fabulous!

I really used this layout as a way to get a bit of a feel for the products and had some fun leaving the CB Borderline - Heart Throb raw, but painting and outlining the CB Vette Alphabet - Upper Case for my title.

I lightly inked a CB Mini Token and layered a scrap of FAB Patchwork Yankee Doodle - Avocado, which I cut to fit, as well as an American Crafts felt arrow just to add a bit of contrast.

Layered over top of some FAB Patchwork Yankee Doodle - Avocado and FAB Garden Notes - Avocado elements, the different treatments to the chipboard really add a lot of texture and dimension to the page!

I really LOVE working with acrylic products, so I used the outline part of this ACR Seedlings - Fluoro Green and backed it on to a co-ordinating piece of paper to make it pop a little more!

So there you have it, my very first Buzz & Bloom DT layout!
